Lehi's dream

I have been thinking a lot lately about Lehi's dream and what it means to me and for all of us.
Elder Holland says that everyone has to pass through the dark and dreary wildreness, even the elect, so how can we make it through?? That is the question how do I stay on the strait and narrow path and hold to the iron rod, like Lehi saw in his dream? These are my thoughts these days, I am grateful for the scriptures and the examples of those in them.
It seems as if there are two answers this question and they are prayer and scripture study.

In the hymn The Iron Rod in the 4th verse this is what it says : And hand oer hand, the rod along,Through each succeeding day, With earnest prayer and hopeful song, We'll still pursue our way. hold to the rod the iron rod; tis strong and bright and true the iron rod is the word of God; twill safely guide us through.  I love this song it is a good reminder of what we have to go through in this life and how we can over come  it!
